Vail Village Covered Bridge

Where are the best places to stay, see, eat, and play in Vail? All of them can be located with reference to other places, like landmarks. Here is an alphabetical list of the most common points of reference in Vail, Colorado. Click the name of each location to see it on our interactive Google map.

  • Cascade Village – The farthest West neighborhood of Vail that is still walking distance to a lift, before you get to West Vail.
  • Checkpoint Charlie – This guard booth is the Vail Police Department’s traffic control point for the entrance into the pedestrian section of Vail Village. Also a common location for outdoor concerts.
  • Children’s Fountain – This fountain in the heart of Vail Village is a great place for families to hang out in the summertime. It is designed for people to easily walk into with their bare feet.
  • City Market – Slightly upscale, complete grocery store in West Vail.
  • Covered Bridge – Vail’s Covered Bridge is a wooden footbridge over the Gore Creek in Vail Village. It is traversed by droves of people each ski day as skiers stomp their way from the Vail Transportation Center to the Vista Bahn ski lift.
  • Dobson Ice Arena – Home to Vail’s indoor skating rink and sometimes event venue.
  • East Vail – East Vail is a residential neighborhood of the Town of Vail. This is the entrance to East Vail, which actually extends several miles East of here. It is accessible from exit #180 on Interstate 70.
  • Ford Park – The largest city park in the Town of Vail, Ford Park is home to baseball/soccer fields, clay tennis courts, a sculpture garden, playground, Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, and the Gerald R Ford Amphitheater.
  • Founders’ Garage – A private underground garage in Vail Village.
  • Golden Peak – The Eastern-most base area for Vail Mountain, this is where you find the Riva Bahn Express lift and the Gopher Hill lift.
  • Intermountain – The farthest West residential neighborhood of West Vail.
  • International Bridge – Vail’s International Bridge is a road bridge over the Gore Creek in Vail Village.
  • Lionshead Parking Structure – Parking is free after 3pm or for any period less than 1.5 hours. Parking for the whole day is $25.
  • Lionshead Skier Bridge – At the bottom of the Born Free and Simba runs, you can ski across this bridge to the base of the Eagle Bahn gondola or Born Free Express chair.
  • Lionshead Village – Lionshead is the base area surrounding the Gondola and Chair 8, and is the Western side of downtown Vail. Many lodges, shops, and restaurants can be found here.
  • Main Vail Roundabout – Accesible directly from Exit #176 on Interstate 70.
  • Marketplace – The Marketplace at One Willow Bridge Road is a small grocery in Vail Village.
  • Pedestrian Bridge – Walking/bicycling bridge over Interstate 70 in Lionshead.
  • Safeway – Less-expensive, complete grocery Store in West Vail.
  • Sandstone – A residential neighborhood that is West of Lionshead, but not quite in West Vail.
  • Seibert Circle – At the top of Bridge Street in Vail Village, this small plaza recently gained a cool water and fire art feature.
  • Vail Fire Station – Fun fact: Local Vail firefighter Ryan Sutter and his bride Trista met on the reality show, The Bachelorette.
  • Vail Golf Course – This is the clubhouse and restaurant for Vail Golf Course. The public course and driving range are open to the public. Also serves as the Vail Nordic Skiing Center in the winter.
  • Vail Interfaith Chapel – The Chapel is home to congregations from the Catholic, Lutheran, Episcopal, Presbyterian, and Jewish faiths.
  • Vail Library – Library services and free internet access.
  • Vail Valley Medical Center and Hospital – The Vail Valley Medical Center is also the home of the world-class Steadman Hawkins Clinic, which specializes in Orthopaedic medicine, and the Howard Head Sports Medicine Center.
  • Vail Village – This is the intersection of the pedestrian-only Bridge Sreet and Gore Creek Drive. Considered the heart of Vail Village.
  • Vail Village Parking Structure – Parking is free after 3pm or for any period less than 1.5 hours. Parking for the whole day is $25.
  • West Vail – West Vail is everything in the Town of Vail West of Sandstone and Cascade all the way to the Intermountain neighborhood. This roundabout marks the main entrance, accesible from exit #173 on Interstate 70.
